CHICAGO -- Elmer Dickerson made two of three free throws with 0.2 seconds left to give Loyola, Ill., a 78-76 victory over Morgan State in both teams' season opener last night.

Loyola took a 42-29 halftime lead, but the Bears came back, scoring the first 10 points of the second half and eventually tied the score twice, the final time at 64.

Loyola led 74-68 with two minutes left after Eric Thomas scored the last of his game-high 24 points. Thomas made 10 of 12 from the field, including four three-point shots. Morgan State then scored the next eight points to take a 76-74 lead when Terry Wright scored from underneath with 24 seconds left. Loyola's Vernell Brent tied the score four seconds later.

Morgan State called timeout, and Loyola's Chris Wilburn stole Terrance Hunter's inbounds pass. He fed Dickerson, who tried a three-pointer, but was fouled by Gerald Jordan. Dickerson hit the first and third of his three attempts, and a three-quarter court shot by Morgan State's Perry Sellers fell short at the buzzer.
