A tree for all

November 27, 1993

Each year, the Maryland Christmas Tree Association publishes a list of farms where city slickers -- as well as suburbanites -- can get in the Eddie Bauer spirit and cut their own trees.

The farms provide a wide variety of spruce, fir and pine trees in heights starting at 3 feet, with most trees in the 6- to 12-foot range. Many farms also have wreaths, greens and holiday shops, refreshments -- and restrooms.

The full list, published in a brochure with tips on cutting and preparing the tree, is available at public libraries in Baltimore and all Maryland counties. A copy can also be obtained if a self-addressed,stamped, legal-size envelope is sent to Tree List, Christmas Tree Assoc., P.O. Box 1232, Abingdon 21009. Do not call the association for a brochure.

The brochure lists which farms sell live trees, also known as "balled and burlapped" trees and other decorative greenery the farms may sell. (See the sidebar on this page for tips to make the excursion a pleasant and productive one.)
