Johnson's 24 lift Loyola past Vienna, 108-80

Darius Johnson helped put Loyola College ahead early and went on to score 24 points in the Greyhounds' 108-80 victory over the Vienna Basket Flyers at Reitz Arena last night.

Loyola built a 17-point lead (55-38) by halftime, then extended it to a final 28-point advantage.

Johnson was 10-for-13 and added a career-high three steals. The Greyhounds' B. J. Pendleton had 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Loyola shot 60 percent and went on a 12-1 scoring run late in the game for a 103-74 edge.

Portugal 80, UMBC 78

Francisco Marcolino scored 24 points to lead Portugal's national team past host UMBC.

Spencer Ferguson led UMBC with 18 points.

Coppin 102, Md. All-Stars 56

Junior forward Stephen Stewart scored 27 points to lead Coppin State past the visiting Maryland All-Stars in an exhibition game at Pullen Gymnasium.

Stewart scored 10 points and Keith Carmichael added nine to help the Eagles take a 41-32 halftime edge. Sidney Goodman had 16 points and Carmichael added 14 for the Eagles.
