Crofton column celebrates its second anniversary

Happy Anniversary Crofton, to you and me.

Two years ago this week The Sun began publishing a weekly column devoted to Crofton news, and I was its first correspondent.

I hope my column has taught you something about your neighbors and civic activities. If you have news for my column, give me a call at 721-4734.


The American Cancer Society, 1041 Route 3, will hold a smoking cessation clinic from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 30, and Dec. 2, 7 and 9.

If you are interested, register by calling 721-4304 or 261-6000 by Sunday.


The Crofton Village Garden Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 1 at the Crofton Village Green for its annual hanging of Christmas wreaths. After hanging the wreaths, members will meet at 11:30 a.m. at Jasper's Restaurant for a business meeting and lunch.


The Association for Gifted and Talented Youth will meet Dec. 2 at Crofton Middle School.

Coffee and conversation will begin at 7 p.m. followed by a workshop at 7:30 p.m. on the Touch Stones/Touchpebbles literature and the art enrichment program sponsored by county public schools.

The Crofton Scrabble Club meets the second Friday of the month at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville, and the fourth Friday of the month at the Crofton Country Club.

New members are always welcome. Play begins at 7:30 p.m. at both locations.

The Crofton Kiwanis annual fruit sale has begun. Orders are due by Dec. 9, with delivery on Dec. 18 or 19.

Choose two-fifths bushel of navel oranges for $10; four-fifths bushel, $19; two-fifths bushel of grapefruit, $9; and four-fifths bushel, $17.

The Crofton intramural boys basketball program needs coaches for all age groups.

As soon as coaches are selected, everyone who has registered will be contacted and placed on a team.

Crofton-area churches will hold an ecumenical Thanksgiving service at 8 p.m. tomorrow at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Route 450.

Parishioners from St. Paul's, Prince of Peace Presbyterian, St. Steven's Episcopal, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Crofton Community United Methodist and First Baptist of Crofton will participate.

Visitors to the area and newcomers are invited.


This year's annual Christmas party for the Crofton Chamber of Commerce will be a party with the West Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Waldon County Club.

Members are encouraged to bring a prospective member.
