Wolfe Player Of The Year

November 22, 1993

Katrina Wolfe, senior, Centennial, midfield -- Every part of the Eagles' game revolved around Wolfe this season. At right link, she led her team on the field with tremendous skills and confidence. Wolfe also led the Eagles (9-4-1) off the field with encouragement and a little coaching. Coach Gail Purcell said that without Wolfe, the Eagles never would have won the Howard County title or reached their Class 3A regional final. "She pulled them together around her," said Purcell. "She's an intelligent tactician. Katrina not only understands the concepts of the game but can explain them to the rest of the team." Besides being solidly skilled, Wolfe brought a confidence to the game that eventually spread to her teammates. Wolfe scored six goals and had five assists, but she also played tremendous defense. She could stop almost anything coming at her, dodge the opposition and spark the attack. A repeat first-team All-County pick, Wolfe received honorable-mention All-State this season from the Maryland State High School Field Hockey Coaches Association.
