Orioles sign Fernandez talks with Clark still on

November 22, 1993|By Jim Henneman

:TC The Orioles made their first score in the free agent market today, but it wasn't the one they had been working on throughout the weekend.

The team called an afternoon press conference to announce the signing of left-handed pitcher Sid Fernandez. Terms of the agreement were not revealed.

Fernandez has a 98-79 career record, with all but one of the losses coming during his 10 years with the New York Mets, who obtained him from the Los Angeles Dodgers after the 1983 season.

Meanwhile, the Orioles were still believed to be in serious negotiations with first baseman Will Clark after spending most of the last two days in discussions with his agent, Jeff Moorad.
