14 Linthicum Elementary students hit the ground running

Fourteen Linthicum Elementary School students joined nearly 100 others in the 1.5-mile "Kids Cross Country Race" at Goucher College.

They are: Danny Anacker, Justin Brown, Mari Butera, Sandy Hardin, Kevin Hodges, Carrie Leach, Heather Mullin, Jamison Peeling, Dan Propert, Aimee Scardina, John Scardina, Matt Slicher, Keith Watkins and Kevin Watkins.

Two Linthicum students were recognized: fourth-grader Danny Anacker, who won a fifth-place trophy and sixth-grader Kevin Hodges, who took home a sixth-place medal.

* The school will have another Burger King Night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 29.

The fifth-grade class is playing host that evening and has a "Monday Night at the Movies" theme planned. Door prizes of movie tickets, movie rentals and popcorn and sodas will be awarded.

All students who attend will receive a homework pass.

Proceeds will help pay for year-end class picnics.


Area churches have planned services for the Thanksgiving holiday.

* St. Christopher Episcopal Church has a Thanksgiving Day Eucharist scheduled for 9 a.m. The parish handbell choir will play.

After the service, coffee, cider and doughnuts will be served in the undercroft.

St. Christopher is off Maples Road between Camp Meade and Hammonds Ferry roads.

* Three churches will share Thanksgiving Eve services at 7:30 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church on Wellham Avenue.

The Korean Methodist Church of Love and Ferndale United Methodist Church will join the congregation of Peace Lutheran. The combined choirs will perform.

The Ferndale Garden Club is meeting at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Ferndale Senior Center, 7205 Baltimore & Annapolis Blvd.

This month the horticultural report will be given by Evelyn Dunne. Marge Dishman and Cindy Schneider will be hostesses.

The agenda includes a Christmas ornament exchange and plans for the club's Christmas tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 at the clubhouse. Santa will be there for the youngsters.

Ruby McDonald is the grand prize winner of the drawing at Head To Toe, a new hair and skin care center in the Linthicum Plaza.

McDonald will get two days of beauty treatments. The first day she will receive a European facial, hair and makeup analysis. The next day she will get a new hairstyle, manicure, pedicure, makeup and beauty products.

Other winners in the drawing received hair and nail products. Maryanne Mountcastle won first prize; Sally Vega, second prize; and Matt Briedenbach, third prize.


The Christmas season gets in full swing Dec. 4. Details will be in next week's column.

* A Christmas bazaar and luncheon will be held at St. John Lutheran Church from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

* "Christmas By Candlelight Open House" from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Benson-Hammond House. The house also will be open Dec. 5.

* "Gingerbread, Brunch & Branches" is this year's theme for the Linthicum Heights Woman's Club Holly Mart from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Linthicum Heights United Methodist Church.
