Anne Arundel Community College's men's cross country team placed 12th out of 32 teams in last weekend's Division III championships in Canandaigua, N.Y. -- two places lower than the goal that coach Jim Fontaine had set.

"We wanted to finish in the top 10, so it's a little bit of a disappointment," he said. "But overall, we had a real good season and I'm proud of the team. We had all freshmen and it was supposed to be a rebuilding year."

Dave Oster was the highest Anne Arundel finisher, coming in 35th outof 128 runners on the 8-kilometer course with a time of 29 minutes, 39 seconds. Bobby Downs was 42nd at 29:54, Jim DiCanio was 58th at 30:57, Craig McKenzie was 71st at 32:00 and John Flannery was 83rd at 33:23. On the women's side, Lynn Kurchock placed 11th out of 70 runners with a time of 22:14, and was chosen honorable-mention All-American.
