Florida Marlins -- Purchased the contracts of P Kurt Miller, P Matt Whisenant and IF/OF Tim Clark from Triple-A Edmonton and placed them on the 40-man roster. Named Bob McClure bullpen catcher.

New York Mets -- Named Jack Diller executive VP for business affairs.

Oakland Athletics -- Signed 1B Mike Aldrete to a two-year contract.

Philadelphia Phillies -- Named Mike Quade manager of Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Agreed to terms with P Tony Castillo on a one-year contract.

Basketball Los Angeles Clippers -- Placed F Danny Manning on the injured list with a cracked bone in his left ring finger. Activated F Henry James from the injured list.

Milwaukee Bucks -- Placed C Frank Brickowski on the injured list.

Colleges NCAA -- Placed Pittsburgh on two years' probation for serious recruiting violations. The basketball program will be limited to 12 scholarships in the 1994-95 and 1995-96 academic years, and expense-paid recruiting visits will be cut from 15 to 12 next season. The football program will have a one-year reduction in on-campus recruiting visits from 70 to 60.

Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference -- Announced the addition of Southwestern, Texas.

North Carolina -- Announced that F Pat Sullivan would sit out the season for another year of eligibility as a graduate student.

UCLA -- Announced that QB Wayne Cook was cleared to play against Southern Cal on Saturday in a Rose Bowl decider at the Los Angeles Coliseum and will start against the Trojans. Cook sat out No. 16 UCLA's 9-3 loss to Arizona State last weekend because of a bruised right kidney.
