Towson's Vinson honored

November 16, 1993

Towson State running back Tony Vinson, who set the NCAA Division I-AA single-game rushing record with 364 yards against Bucknell last Saturday, has been named the I-AA Offensive Player of the Week.

Vinson has 1,689 yards in nine games, an average of 187.7 that leads I-AA. He needs 195 yards in Saturday's finale at Morgan State to break the I-AA season record of 1,883 yards set by Colgate's Rich Erenberg in 1983.

Vinson, who also was named ECAC I-AA Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in his career, had four touchdowns in the 49-21 win over Bucknell to give him 19 for the season, breaking the Tow

son State record of 16 set by David Meggett in 1988.

The Tigers (7-2) moved from No. 28 to No. 25 in the I-AA poll released yesterday. The Sports Network I-AA Top 25 is voted on by a panel of athletic directors, coaches, sports information directors and media.

The NCAA chooses 16 teams to compete in the NCAA I-AA playoffs.
