Terps advance to field hockey semis

COLLEGE PARK -- Freshman Josephine Blauw scored the game-winner on a penalty corner shot at 23:24 of the second half to lift third-seeded Maryland over Massachusetts, 2-1, in the second round of the NCAA Division I field hockey tournament yesterday.

Maryland (19-3) will advance to the semifinals and face second-seeded Iowa at Rutgers on Saturday. In the other semifinal, No. 1 Penn State will play North Carolina.

Tara Everly scored Maryland's first goal on a touch pass from Shannon Petrick with 1:56 left in the first half. Natalie Hart scored for Massachusetts (19-4) with 19:38 left in the game.

The Terps outshot Massachusetts, 23-14.
