School: Senior at South Carroll High School.

Honored for: Being one of two Maryland representatives to Girls' Nation, sponsored by the American Legion and held in July at Marymount College in Arlington, Va.

Liz was elected at Girls' State in Chestertown to represent Maryland. While at the national event, she participated with 96 other girls in drafting legislative bills and resolutions. A resolution she co-authored was among two presented to President Clinton.

She is president of student government at South Carroll and a drum major in the marching band.

Goals: "I'm really interested in government, and considering becoming a lawyer."

Although she said she admired Mr. Clinton's sincerity when she met him, she said her politics are more those of a Republican.

Comments: "I think it's fascinating to find out what's going on [in politics]. I think Girls' Nation was a real good experience. Each state dealt with a bill and a resolution."

The Maryland resolution, which she helped write, was "about forming a committee that would investigate the rising cost of college tuition and find ways to bring that down."
