The following students received the Outstanding Student Award Essex Community College: Harry Lee Undy Jr. of Towson, in politics and law; Gennifer L. Taylor of Middle River, in music; Michelle Lynn Haber of Hawthorn, in acting; Gina M. Weber of Towson, in speech, mass communications and theater; Georgia Smith of Essex, in criminal justice; Rosie Marie Brazelton of Reisterstown, in hotel/motel-restaurant/club management; and Yara H. Joeckel of Timonium, in foreign languages.

William N. Sharpe Jr., Decker professor and chairman of the department of mechanical engineering at the Johns Hopkins University, has been honored with the Nadai Award of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Lourdes S. Morales, president of World Travel Associates Ltd., has been named in "Who's Who in Hispanic America." She is president of the Hispanic Cultural Association of Maryland and serves on the Baltimore County Advisory Minority Council.

Doris Powers of Bel Air was among eight North American volunteers who taught business skills to entrepreneurs and business managers in Zaporozh'ye, Ukraine. The team of volunteers was sent by Global Volunteers, a Minnesota-based non-profit volunteer organization working in four former Soviet republics.
