Horse racing

Harness Racing Hall of Fame -- Announced selection of Joe DeFrank, Meadowlands director of racing, and Ron Waples, a trainer and driver at the track. They will be inducted in July at the Hall of Fame in Goshen, N.Y. along with trainer John Patterson Sr. and horse owner Ed Ryan.

Japan Cup -- The world's richest race, with a first-prize of $1.5 million, announced the withdrawal of American entry Fraise, who was reported to be exhausted. The 1 1/2 -mile race is Nov. 28.

Buffalo Bandits (MILL) -- Released F Tom Maraechek. Announced that F Jim Bissell has become a territorial free agent.
