Women's Guild to conduct Sunday service

The Women's Guild of Lazarus United Church of Christ will conduct the worship at 10 a.m. Sunday as the women present their annual Thank Offering service.

The guest speaker will be Joe Himes, a member of the Central Atlantic Conference Task Force for the Appalachia Project, which helps residents of Garrett County. He will speak on his "Appalachian Experiences."

After the worship, there will be a short congregational meeting to vote on proposed rules and regulations for the Lazarus Church cemetery.

The Conversation With Children will be "Time to Recharge." Afterward, a nursery is available for preschool children.

Sunday school will be at 9 a.m. One of the adult classes will begin a 12-week study on human suffering and faith, "God, Where Are You?"

The pastor will attend the Catoctin Ministerium meeting in Walkersville Tuesday and a Pastoral Care seminar Wednesday at Carroll County General Hospital.

Weekly studies of the United Church of Christ church continue at 7 p.m. Tuesday with a look at United Church of Christ beliefs and "Statement of Faith."

The church is at 5101 S. Church St. in Lineboro.

FIRE

* Hampstead: Firefighters from Hampstead, Manchester and Arcadia responded for a chimney fire on South Main Street in Hampstead at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday. Units were out for an hour and 18 minutes.

The Hampstead fire company responded for a report of an automatic fire alarm sounding in a building on Allview Drive at 11:35 a.m. Wednesday. They were out for seven minutes.

* Lineboro: Firefighters from the Lineboro station were dispatched to assist York County, Pa., units at a combine fire on Wolfgang School Road at 4:31 p.m. Wednesday. Units were out for an hour and seven minutes.
