Garrison Forest advances to semis Field hockey

Liza Shoemaker's goal in the second stroke-off lifted visiting Garrison Forest over No. 6 and host Notre Dame Prep, 3-2, in an Association of Independent Schools A Division field hockey quarterfinal yesterday.

The eighth-seeded Grizzlies (6-3-3) advance to a semifinal at Severn tomorrow at 3:15 p.m.

After two scoreless overtime periods, the teams scored once each in the first stroke-off. Shoemaker had the only goal in the second stroke-off.

Garrison Forest's Courtney Austin, who scored in the first stroke-off, tied the game with a goal at 11:05 of the second half. Garrison Forest outshot top-seeded Notre Dame Prep, 14-11.

Jacque Weitzel made 17 saves for the Grizzlies. Erin Graham had 17 for Notre Dame Prep.

In the teams' first meeting, Oct. 22, the game ended 1-1.

* Bryn Mawr 1, McDonogh 0: Junior forward Meredith Mao scored on an assist from Dabney Barner to lead No. 2 Bryn Mawr past visiting McDonogh in an AIS A Division quarterfinal.

The Mawrtians (8-1-3) will play host to No. 4 Roland Park in tomorrow's 3:15 p.m. semifinal.

* Roland Park 1, Maryvale 0: Peggy Boutilier's penalty shot after an illegal body save by a Maryvale defender lifted No. 4 Roland Park over visiting Maryvale in an AIS A Division quarterfinal.

The Reds (9-3), who outshot Maryvale 29-5, will play at Bryn Mawr at 3:15 p.m. tomorrow.

* Severn 3, Friends 1, OT: Joyce Wu, Meghan Bauer and Becky Paul scored one goal each to take Severn past visiting Friends in an AIS A Division quarterfinal.

The Admirals advance to tomorrow's semifinal round and play host to Garrison Forest tomorrow at 3:15 p.m.

* Glenelg Country 1, Seton Keough 0: Sophomore Elena Heifetz scored with two minutes remaining to lift Glenelg Country School (3-5-2) past host Seton Keough in an AIS B Division quarterfinal.

Glenelg Country faces Oldfields tomorrow in a semifinal.

* Oldfields 1, St. Timothy's 0, OT: Ellie Rawle scored the winning goal unassisted to take Oldfields past visiting St. Timothy's in an AIS B Division quarterfinal.

Oldfields will play host to Glenelg Country School tomorrow.

* John Carroll 1, Lutheran 0: Jen Kotlar scored the winning goal to help John Carroll past Lutheran in an AIS B Conference quarterfinal game. Teri Tobash assisted on the game-winning goal.

The Patriots will play at top-seeded Park at 3:15 tomorrow.
