Boston Red Sox -- Promoted Lou Gorman from senior vice president and general manager to executive vice president of baseball operations.

Chicago White Sox -- Sold their Single-A Florida State League franchise in Sarasota to the Florida Marlins.

Colorado Rockies -- Named Bill Hayes manager and Chuck Estrada pitching coach at their Central Valley farm club of the California League (A).

Detroit Tigers -- Signed P Storm Davis to a one-year contract.

Florida Marlins -- Announced they will move their Single-A Florida State League Sarasota franchise to their new spring training site in Brevard County, Fla., for the 1994 season.

Houston Astros -- Announced they will not renew the contract of assistant director of minor-league operations and scouting Lew Temple for 1994.

San Diego Padres -- Named Sonny Siebert pitching coach.

San Francisco Giants -- Signed P Rich Monteleone, who had been with the New York Yankees, to a one-year contract; gave P Dave Righetti his unconditional release; purchased the minor-league contracts of P Joe Rosselli and P Bill VanLandingham and C Marcus Jensen.

Seattle Mariners -- Acquired P Jeff Darwin from the Florida Marlins for IF Dave Magadan and cash; agreed to terms on a one-year contract with P Reggie Harris and added him to the 40-man roster; signed 2B Tommy Hinzo to a minor-league contract.


Cleveland Cavaliers -- Placed F Larry Nance on the injured list. Signed G Sedric Toney.


NCAA -- Appointed Judge Frederick Lacey and James Richmond to the Committee on Infractions. Placed UNLV's baketball program on three years probation, limits some television appearances and scheduling and eliminates two scholarships. Placed Virginia Tech's men's cross country program on two years probation. Virginia Tech must forfeit its 1990 Metropolitan Collegiate Championship.

Rutgers -- Four members of the football team -- senior DB Jay Bellamy, DB Tim Geckeler and DB Malik Jackson and junior OG Kareem Williams -- were suspended indefinitely by head coach Doug Graber for violating the team's code of conduct. The team did not specify what the four players did.


U.S. Cycling Federation -- Named Chris Carmichael national coaching director.


Chicago Bears -- Released DT William Perry; signed DT Tory Epps.

Green Bay Packers -- Signed LB Jim Morrissey; waived LB Keith Traylor.

Minnesota Vikings -- Signed RB Scottie Graham; placed LB Bruce Holmes on the injured list; signed DB David Wilson to the practice squad.

New York Giants -- Waived P Sean Landeta (Towson State, Loch Raven High); signed P Mike Horan.

Washington Redskins -- Placed OT Joe Jacoby on the injured list; signed G Vernice Smith.


Mighty Ducks of Anaheim -- Recalled G Mikhail Shtalenkov.

Ottawa Senators -- Assigned RW Robert Burakovsky to Prince Edward Island (AHL).
