The Carroll District of the Boy Scouts of America gave Del. Richard N. Dixon, a county Democrat, its "Good Scout" award yesterday.

The Scouts honored Mr. Dixon, 55, at a luncheon at the Wakefield Valley Golf Club and gave him a plaque in recognition of his community service and leadership.

The Boy Scouts present the award to individuals who exemplify the ideals of their organization.

Mr. Dixon, of Westminster, has represented the 5th District in the state House of Representatives since 1983 and is an assistant vice president at Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith.

He told the crowd of 145 that he had been a Scout as a boy. The organization is important for youth, he said. The audience gave the legislator a standing ovation.

This is the third time the Carroll District of the Boy Scouts has presented a "Good Scout" award, District Chairwoman Georgia Myers said.

Last year, the Scouts honored John F. Gambatese, senior vice president at Random House in Westminster.

In 1991, they honored Louis B. Scharon, an agent with Long & Foster Realtors in Westminster and a county commissioner from 1978 to 1981.
