This Saturday: at North Carolina State, Carter-Finley Stadium, Raleigh, N.C., 12:10 p.m.

Previous game: The Terps hung with No. 1 Florida State for 33 minutes, but the Seminoles scored the game's final three touchdowns and cruised to a 49-20 victory at Byrd Stadium. Florida State won its 16th straight game, an Atlantic Coast Conference record, and clinched its second ACC title in as many seasons. Maryland dropped into a tie for last with Wake Forest in the ACC. . . . North Carolina State (6-3), which had been ranked No. 22, was upset at Duke, 21-20.

Key statistics: Charlie Ward rested his bruised ribs for Saturday's showdown at No. 2 Notre Dame, but Florida State still had a potent passing attack. Sophomore Danny Kanell completed 28 of 38 passes for 341 yards and five touchdowns. Scott Milanovich threw his 19th and 20th touchdowns passes, breaking the Maryland single-season record. Redshirt freshman Kevin Foley subbed for Milanovich on one possession in each half and completed seven of nine for 150 yards. Junior-college transfer Allen Williams had 30 carries for 118 yards, both season highs for the Terps.

Injury report: FS Lamont Gore (bruised back) and LB Cleveland Everhart (back spasms) were injured. WR Jermaine Lewis (bruised shoulder), OG Jade Dubis (sprained ankle) and DT Madison Bradley (bad back) are starters who did not play.
