Winfield boy, 11, injures hand in log splitter

An 11-year old Winfield boy was flown to Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore Saturday night after he caught his left hand in a log splitter.

Joshua Smith, 11, was listed in excellent condition yesterday at the hospital's Curtis Hand Center. His middle finger was cut to the joint and his index finger was broken.

The Winfield and Community Volunteer Fire Department ambulance crew responded to the call at 6:13 p.m. at the child's home on the farm of Brian and Melvin Leppo.
