SALISBURY -- Fourth seed Broadneck lost, 6-0, to second seed J. M. Bennett in their Class 3A South field hockey final yesterday.

"They were faster than we were and we couldn't keep up with them," Broadneck coach Phoebe Kelly said.

The Clippers (10-2-1) scored two goals in the first 8:21 and never were threatened.

"We weren't expecting to win this big today," said Bennett coach Denise Brewington, whose team made the jump from Class 2A to 3A this year. "We did a good job keeping the ball out of the middle of the field."

The Bruins (5-9), who were coming off a 1-0 upset Tuesday of top-seeded La Plata, never got going against their Wicomico County host.

Broadneck didn't register its lone shot on goal until 10 minutes remained in the game.
