Westminster co-coach Sue Hooper said what everybody else seemed to be thinking moments after Jen Markowitz scored in sudden-death overtime yesterday to give the No. 7 Owls a 2-1 victory over No. 9 Perry Hall in the state Class 4A North regional field hockey final at Perry Hall.

"I don't know if we could repeat that [win] again," Hooper said. "They dominated us in overtime and at the end of regulation play. They were a tough team."

Markowitz and Kristen Lewis, two seniors, worked a perfectly timed play to end the game 8:50 into the overtime.

/# Markowitz got the ball to Lewis

15 yards from the cage with a pass that bounced past two defenders, and then Markowitz went straight for the goal and was right where she needed to be to put the ball in when Lewis' shot rebounded off Perry Hall goalie Stacey Davis' pads.

Linda Fisher, coach of the top-seeded Perry Hall (11-1), said her team did "everything but win."

"The ball [to set up the winning goal] hopped over two sticks. That's the way field hockey is. You can do almost everything right and still lose," she said.

The second-seeded Owls (12-2) advance to the state 4A tournament semifinals Monday at Goucher.
