Fallston starts fast in 2-0 win KOs Chesapeake-BC in hockey semifinal

Susan Mackley and Nicole Taylor scored first-half goals as No. 3 Fallston (11-0-2) defeated visiting Chesapeake-BC, 2-0, in the first round of the Class 2A North regional field hockey playoffs yesterday.

Fallston will play host to Loch Raven, a 3-0 winner over Overlea on Monday, in the regional final tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Mackley scored her goal off a corner hit by Lauren Grabowski, then came back to set up Taylor on a 2-on-1 situation against Chesapeake goalkeeper Jennifer Rutledge (eight saves).

The Bayhawks finished 5-7-1.

* Bel Air 3, Parkville 1: Senior center-link Jaimie Kunkel scored twice and senior wing Colleen Hammock added one as the eighth-ranked Bel Air squeezed past Parkville in a Class 3A East regional semifinal game.

The Bobcats will visit Kenwood for the regional final at 3:15 p.m. tomorrow.

* Perry Hall 2, Gaithersburg 1, OT: Tennille Foster scored 1:58 into overtime as No. 9 Perry Hall edged Gaithersburg in a Class 4A North regional semifinal game. Krisan Pfeifer opened the scoring for the Gators with a first-half goal.

Perry Hall will play host to No. 7 Westminster in the regional final.

Boys soccer

* Parkville 2, Dundalk 2 (Parkville wins shootout, 8-5): Parkville upset No. 14 and host Dundalk in a Class 3A North semifinal game as the Knights won the shootout, 8-5.

Mark Kahl tied the game at 2-2 for Parkville with seven minutes left. Luke Bell had given the Owls a brief 2-1 edge with 11 minutes to play.

Damion Mitchell made three saves during the shootout for Parkville. The Knights will play Franklin in the regional final Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Hereford.

* Franklin 2, C. Milton Wright 1: Unassisted goals by Vinnie Santoro and Nick Heinz helped lift Franklin to a victory over No. 11 C. Milton Wright in a Class 3A North Region semifinal.

* Perry Hall 9, Southern-B 0: Senior Greg Stark scored three goals to lead No. 5 Perry Hall over visiting Southern-BC in a Class 4A North Region semifinal game.

The Gators face Dulaney at Essex Community College in the regional final at 3 p.m. Saturday.

* Dulaney 3, Patterson 2, OT: Dulaney's Matt Rich, Booth Farwelland Dan Sherwood each scored one goal to take No. 15 Dulaney past host Patterson in a Class 4A North regional semifinal game.

* Hereford 4, Owings Mills 0: John Wingeart scored two goals to lead Hereford past Owings Mills in a 1A North regional semifinal game. Matt Saunders and Chad Benson scored one goal each for the Bulls.

Girls soccer

* Loch Raven 4, Catonsville 1: Sophomore halfback Bridget Harthausen scored the game-winning goal as No. 10 Loch Raven used a four-goal second half to overtake visiting Catonsville in a Class 1A-2A East region semifinal.

Junior striker Robyn Harry also added a goal and an assist for the Raiders (12-1).

Loch Raven faces Towson in the regional final at Lansdowne at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

* Towson 4, Owings Mills 2: Kristin Carey scored three goals to lead Towson past Owings Mills in a 1A-2A East regional semifinal game. Nicole Walker added another score for the Generals.

* C. Milton Wright 4, Perry Hall 0: Erin Updegrove, a sophomore goalkeeper, made 16 saves as No. 2 C. Milton Wright shut out Perry Hall in a Class 3A-4A North regional semifinal game. Erin Lesh contributed a goal and an assist.

The Mustangs (12-0-1) play at Dulaney in the regional final Friday at 3 p.m.

* Dulaney 9, Parkville 0: Aimee Vaughan scored four goals to lead No. 6 Dulaney over over visiting Parkville in a Class 3A-4A North region game. Whitney McClelland added two goals for the Lions.

* Old Mill 3, Arundel 2: Michelle Salmon scored three goals to lead Old Mill past Arundel in a 3A-4A East regional semifinal game. Old Mill plays at Chesapeake-AA in the regional final Saturday at 5 p.m.

* Chesapeake-AA 12, Western 0: Ten different players scored as No. 9 Chesapeake-AA routed Western in 3A-4A East regional semifinal game.

L Melissa Wagner, a junior, scored three goals for Chesapeake.

* Centennial 3, South Carroll 1: Michelle Clare recorded her third hat trick of the season as No. 8 Centennial (7-2-3) dropped host and No. 13 South Carroll (10-2-1) in a 3A-4A West regional semifinal game.

* North Harford 2, Overlea 1: Karen Phipps and Danielle Konschak scored one goal each to take North Harford past Overlea in a 1A-2A North region game. North Harford plays host to Fallston in the regional final on Saturday.

* Seton Keough 3, Mount de Sales 2: Melanie Morris scored the go-ahead goal at the 25-minute mark of the second half as Seton Keough defeated visiting Mount de Sales in a Catholic League B Division Tournament semifinal game.

Kathy Dunaway scored the first two goals to start the comeback for Seton Keough. The Gators will meet Severn tomorrow in the championship game at Utz Field at 5:15 p.m.

* Severn 4, Mount Carmel 0: Freshman forward Jessica Popham scored two goals as Severn shut out Mount Carmel in a Catholic League Division B semifinal game. Cara Lawson had four saves for the Admirals (10-1-2).
