F.S. Key tops Sparrows Point

Sophomore Stacey Greene scored three goals and added an assist to lead Francis Scott Key to a 5-0 win over Sparrows Point in a Class 1A, West Regional semifinal field hockey game yesterday in Uniontown.

The top-seeded Eagles dominated throughout the contest, outshooting fourth-seeded Sparrows Point 40-1 in advancing to the region finals. Key will play host to Wilde Lake tomorrow at 3:15 p.m.

Lisa Etzler got the Eagles on the board in the first half with a goal off an assist from Robin Lease. Greene scored the next three goals -- the first giving the Eagles a 2-0 halftime lead. Holly Talbert closed out the scoring late in the second half. Stacey Eaton and Jessica Sutherland also recorded assists.

Goalie Missy Muller made one save to record the shutout for the Eagles.

* Liberty 4, Damascus 1: Janet Hosford scored two goals to lead the Lions past the Hornets in a Class 2A, West Regional semifinal. Jessica Horneman and Amy North added one goal each for the winning team.

* Wilde Lake 2, Poolesville 1: Senior forward Maggie Barker broke a 1-1 tie in the last round of sudden death to end a quadruple overtime game and lift Wilde Lake over host Poolesville in a Class 1A, West Regional semifinal.

Wilde Lake faces host Francis Scott Key in a regional final tomorrow at 3:15 p.m.
