2 heating system fires extinguished

The onset of cold weather resulted in two heating system fires Sunday in northwestern Carroll, according to fire officials.

Engines from New Windsor, Union Bridge, Westminster, Taneytown and Hampstead were dispatched to a furnace fire in a house on Main Street in New Windsor at 9:55 a.m. Sunday.

Units were out for 15 minutes.

Taneytown, Union Bridge and Harney needed only minutes to extinguish a chimney fire in a house on Tuscarora Court in Taneytown after being called out at 6:22 p.m. Sunday.

Units were out for 57 minutes checking for the possible spread of the fire to other sections of the building, fire officials said.

FIRES

* Taneytown: Engines from the Taneytown station assisted Frederick County at a house fire in the 10500 block of Taneytown Pike at 1:01 p.m. Friday. They were out for almost two hours.

* Union Bridge: Firefighters from the Union Bridge company assisted Frederick County at a house fire on Green Valley Road at 9:35 a.m. Sunday. Units were out for 20 minutes.
