AUDREY POWERS

School: Mount de Sales Academy in Catonsville

Hometown: Columbia

Age: 17

As if carrying a perfect grade point average isn't enough, Audrey also leads the school's soccer and lacrosse teams and serves as this year's student council treasurer, among other activities.

She is a winner of the Father Robert W. Duerr scholarship, a $500 renewable award, and last year's winner of the U.S. Army Reserve Scholar Athlete award. She is a Maryland Distinguished Scholar honorable mention and was named "Unsung Hero" in soccer her sophomore year and in lacrosse her junior year.

Audrey is a singer in the school chorus and a member of the school's Sodality, a religious group that also does community service projects. She belongs to the Academy Club, a group whose members serve as goodwill ambassadors, as well as the Astronomy Club, Science Club and the National Honor Society.

In what is left of her spare time, she is an ice dancer with the Baltimore Figure Skating Club.

Plans: Audrey's ambition is to become an astronaut. She plans to major in astro-aeronautical engineering at Purdue University and has been a participant in Johns Hopkins' year-long Women's Space Science Forum.

Her comments: "Work as hard as you can. It's extremely hard to be dedicated and work at the same time, but it pays off."
