Kiss before swimming Singer Judy Collins' new album, "Judy Sings Dylan Just Like a Woman," is not out yet, but it has already gotten a favorable review from one longtime fan: President Clinton.

The president thanked the folk singer for sending him an advance copy last week when they appeared in New York at a rally for Mayor David N. Dinkins.

"It makes me very happy that he likes my new album," said Ms. Collins. The Geffen Records release is due out Nov. 9.

Country music stars left out in the rain

Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn were left cooling their heels on the street after a smoke machine triggered alarms during filming of a music video last week in Nashville, Tenn.

The special-effects machine overwhelmed smoke alarms at Jackson Hall in the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. That left the three women out in the cold with a host of male performers including Grandpa Jones, Carl Perkins, Ricky Skaggs and Ronnie Milsap.

The men were on hand for cameos in the "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" video.

Duttons' new digs cost $1.5 million

Baltimore-reared actor Charles S. Dutton and his wife, actress Debbi Morgan, have bought a home in Los Angeles for $1.5 million.

Mr. Dutton, who studied acting at Towson State University, stars in the Fox sitcom "Roc." His wife is in the ABC soap "Loving."

Maggie and Joel keep Turner happy

Meet Maggie and Joel. Not the characters whose love-hate relationship fuels "Northern Exposure," but the horses actress Janine Turner named after them.

Maggie is a 9-year-old mare Ms. Turner named after the bush pilot she plays on the quirky CBS TV series. Joel is a 9-month-old roan named after Joel Fleischman, the misplaced New York doctor played by series co-star Rob Morrow.

"A typical horse day for me lasts about five hours," Ms. Turner says in the December issue of InStyle magazine.

Pebbles wannabes are bad to the bone

Stage mothers never change, according to Nancy Nayor, casting director of the movie "The Flintstones," who recently held auditions for the role of Pebbles.

"You should have seen what some of the mothers did to their little girls' hair. They were wearing bones from the chicken they had for dinner the night before," she told Premiere magazine.

Diana asks Major to find her a job

Britain's Princess Diana, estranged from Prince Charles, is looking for a job.

The London Daily Mail reports that the princess has asked Prime Minister John Major to assign her some kind of job as a roving ambassador.
