Owen Brown merchants to have parade, contest

The Owen Brown Merchants Association will sponsor a Halloween costume contest and parade at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Owen Brown Village Center.

Registration begins at 5 p.m.; the costume parade begins at 6 p.m.

First-, second- and third-place awards will be given in four age groups: under 2; 3-4; 5-8; and 9-12. Participants will receive a free trick-or-treat bag.

A prize also will be given for the best adult costume.

The event will also feature Mr. B; Dolly the Dancing Elephant; and Barney Moose.

* Owen Brown: Snowden River Parkway/Route 175: Someone tried to take a 1987 Honda Accord Wednesday, police said.

9500 block of Gerwig Lane: Car thieves driving a stolen gray 1986 Chevrolet Nova were scared away by witnesses who saw them using a dent puller on the window of a 1988 Acura Legend Wednesday. Police said the thieves stole the Nova from Westmont Ave. in Baltimore around 6 a.m. the same day.

* Oakland Mills: 5800 block of Morningbird Lane: A resident reported seeing a prowler lurking in the yard Thursday. The suspect was described as a man wearing blue jeans and white tennis shoes.
