Kyler TD leads No. 2 Poly past No. 3 Gilman, 7-0

Greg Kyler's 9-yard touchdown with 1:34 remaining in regulation lifted No. 2 and visiting Poly to a 7-0 win over No. 3 Gilman in a non-league football game yesterday.

Kyler's sprint, his 14th touchdown of the season, capped a 12-play, 52-yard drive. The Engineers (8-0) stopped Gilman on downs and ran out the remaining 40 seconds. Gilman (7-1) managed just 100 yards total offense.

* Oakland Mills 28, Wilde Lake 27 (OT): Damien Smith scored his third touchdown of the game in overtime, lifting Oakland Mills (4-4, 3-2) over host Wilde Lake (4-4, 3-2) in a Howard County League game.

In overtime, Wilde Lake coach Doug DuVall elected to go for a two-point conversion and the win after tailback Mike Green scored from 3 yards out to bring the Wildecats within a point.

After Wilde Lake senior quarterback Seth Willingham failed in drawling Oakland Mills' defense offside, Green got the call on a ++ handoff and Scorpions senior defensive back Ricky Leon burst into the backfield to stop Green.

* Glenelg 33, Mount Hebron 7: Senior tailback James McKenny had 20 carries for 171 yards and three touchdowns, leading Glenelg (6-2, 3-2) past Mount Hebron (2-6, 0-5) in a Howard County League game.

McKenny scored on runs of 11, 22 and 1 yard.

* Loyola 35, Severn 6: Junior quarterback Brian Nicholas threw for a touchdown and ran for another, leading host Loyola (2-4) past Severn (2-6) in a Maryland Scholastic Association Armstrong non-conference game.

* Howard 21, Atholton 14: DaLawn Parrish's 5-yard touchdown with 28 seconds remaining in regulation, lifted host Howard (7-1, 4-1) over Atholton (5-3, 2-3) in a Howard County League game.

* Hammond 20, Centennial 0: Tim Spruill scored on a 6-yard touchdown run and returned a punt 70 yards for another, leading Hammond (6-2, 4-1) past Centennial (3-5, 1-4) in a Howard County League game. The victory kept Hammond tied for first with Howard.

Girls soccer

* Kenwood 3, Perry Hall 1: Senior forward Kim Filling scored two goals as host Kenwood (5-5, 5-4) upsetted No. 14 Perry Hall (8-2, 8-1) in a Baltimore County 3A-4A League game. Melissa Wosk, a junior goalkeeper, made 18 saves for Kenwood.

Boys soccer

* Dundalk 3, Dulaney 2: Jason Parks and Chris Astarita each scored in a three-goal second half that lifted host Dundalk past No. 10 Dulaney, in a Baltimore County 3A-4A League game. The Lions jumped out to a 2-0 first-half lead on goals from Bill Ficiliano and Dan Sherwood.
