CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- Hal C. B. Clagett's Run Alden heads a field of eight 2-year-olds scheduled to go in today's 32nd running of the $61,475 Tri-State Futurity at the Charles Town Races.

The Tri-State, a seven-furlong test for 2-year-olds foaled in Maryland, Virginia or West Virginia, is one of only a few true futurities in the United States with the offspring of all mares nominated before foaling with no supplemental nominations.

Run Alden, a Maryland-bred son of John Alden out of Run Equine Run, comes off a 2 1/2 -length victory over a field of 13 Maryland-sired 2-year-olds in the seven-panel Maryland Million Nursery at Laurel Race Course on Oct. 6. The John J. Robb-trained youngster will carry top weight of 124 pounds under the allowance conditions of the Tri-State, much of it in the form of jockey Greg Hutton.
