He is running for election to the council on the Republican ticket.

Naval Academy gets fitness center funding

Congress has approved $6.5 million for an improved physical fitness center at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.

The facility, which will include a renovation and expansion of the current fitness center in Ricketts Hall, was approved last year, but the money was not authorized until yesterday. Construction should be completed in late 1995.

"If our nation's future military leaders are to meet the highest standards of physical fitness, they must have access to the best facilities available," U.S. Sen. Paul Sarbanes said in a prepared statement. "The expanded fitness center will have a positive impact on the brigade's morale, training and readiness."
