Board of Education names employee of the month

Sandy Brusberg, chief secretary at Brooklyn Park/Lindale Middle Junior High School, has been named Employee of the Month for October by the county Board of Education. A 23-year employee at Brooklyn Park/Lindale, Brusberg received a citation and a bell during an Oct. 8 ceremony at the Board of Education building in Annapolis. Students and staff at the school hung a banner in Brusberg's honor and gave her two dozen roses, a cake and other treats.

It's bargain time again. The Belle Grove Improvement Association will sponsor a flea market from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Bingo World parking lot, Belle Grove Road and 10th Avenue. Table rentals are $3 for members, $5 for nonmembers.

Belle Grove Elementary School news: Parent volunteers are needed as hosts and hostesses at Burger King Night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 25. Volunteers will greet Belle Grove students and their families.

Brooklyn Park Elementary School news: Vision and hearing screenings are planned for today and tomorrow. Kindergartners, third-graders and new students will be tested.

* The school's C.A.C. will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the conference room.

* Thursday, third-graders will perform odd jobs for three needy seniors in the community. The project is called "Make, Bake and Rake."

Park Elementary School news: Volunteers are needed for several school activities, including helping students and preparing school materials.

North County High School news: Friday, originally planned as a teacher in-service day, will be a regular school day.

* The Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the band room.

* Anyone interested in helping the Parents' Club with the craft show should attend a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Olde Brooklyn Park Improvement Association will meet at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the Brooklyn Park Elementary School cafeteria, 200 14th Ave. The membership dues are $4 a family. Luminary candle kits for Christmas will be sold at the meeting. The cost is $4 for 10 bags and candles.

The St. John Lutheran Day School PTA is sponsoring a Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the school, 226 Washburn Ave. More than 60 artisans will sell their crafts.

The Brooklyn Park Youth Athletic Association is accepting registrations for basketball. The sport is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 15. Registration is planned through Nov. 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at the Sugar Shack at the 10th Avenue fields.

Registration fees are $25 for one child, $40 for two or more children. Spaces are limited, so register early. For information, call Roger McGhee at 636-6561.

The North County High School Drama Club needs business sponsors for the 1993-94 school year. The club is asking for a $25 minimum donation. In return, businesses will receive two complimentary tickets to the fall and spring productions and an advertisement in the play bill.
