* The County Commissioners have announced their selection of five nominees to serve on the charter board -- all of them taken from the list submitted by the Democrats and Republicans Allied for Charter. Those named were: Miss Ellen Arnold, who is active in the Republican party and civic affairs; A. Olin Grimes, Finksburg, general manager of Armco Steel Corporation plant in Baltimore; Edward Arrington, a business man of Sykesville; Herbert Wessell, a dairy farmer of near Hampstead, and Aria Fox, of Myers district and employed by Bendix Corporation. -- Democratic Advocate, Sept. 26, 1968

* The Rotarians, the oldest service club in this city, showed their superiority by thrashing their two brother organizations at softball Sunday afternoon, when they trimmed each club by substantial scores. The sum realized was over $306.50, which will swell the amount toward the memorial fund. Another feature was when Mayor Joseph L. Mathias, looking like Mel Ott, the Giant swatter, was at the bat, with W. Frank Thomas pitching just like Rube Melton, to James Pearre Wantz, the catcher, who looked like Mickey Owen, the Dodger receiver. -- Democratic Advocate, Sept. 24, 1943.

* After an interval of several months, the movies will be resumed here on Saturday evening, by Geo. C. Eichelberger. In the meantime, extensive improvements are being made to the interior of the Hall -- re-papering, painting, drop lights and remodeling the interior generally. Mr. Eichelberger proposes to use nothing but the best grade of pictures thereby insuring the movie-loving public good entertainment in a pleasant and comfortable hall. -- Union Bridge Pilot, Sept. 27, 1918.
