Defensive line gets thinner with Buck out PRO FOOTBALL

October 16, 1993|By Vito Stellino

The Washington Redskins made it official yesterday that defensive lineman Jason Buck will join Charles Mann on the sidelines for tomorrow's game against the Phoenix Cardinals.

Buck, who separated his shoulder Sunday, was placed on the inactive list along with Mann, who is recovering from knee surgery. The other two players put on the inactive list were tight end Frank Wycheck and offensive lineman Greg Huntington.

A third lineman, Tim Johnson (bruised thigh), hasn't practiced this week, and two others, Eric Williams (hip) and Shane Collins (foot), have practiced but aren't at top strength.

Besides Keith Willis, who was signed this week, the other healthy linemen are Al Noga, Jim Wahler, Bobby Wilson and rookie Sterling Palmer.

The Redskins are so short of defensive linemen that they've practiced the 3-4 defense, which they normally never use.

Backup offensive lineman Joe Jacoby was sidelined with back spasms but is expected to play. So are two players, center Jeff Bostic and punter Reggie Roby, who are battling the flu.
