Boston Red Sox -- Sent IF Jeff Richardson to Triple-A Pawtucket.

California Angels -- Agreed to terms with P John Farrell, C Greg Myers and IF Torey Lovullo.

Chicago Cubs -- Rehired following coaches Chuck Cottier, ex-Oriole Tony Muser, Jose Martinez and Billy Williams. Cottier will move from third base to become bench coach. Muser moves from the bullpen to third. Martinez remains at first, and Williams remains hitting instructor. The club also purchased the contracts of IF Matt Franco and P Blaise Ilsley from Triple-A Iowa. Designated IF Jose Viera for assignment.

Chicago White Sox -- Purchased the contracts of P Steve Schrenk and IF Ron Coomer from Triple-A Nashville.

Kansas City Royals -- Reinstated IF Curtis Wilkerson and P Rusty Meacham from the 60-day DL. Announced that Wilkerson, C Nelson Santovenia and P Bill Sampen refused assignment and became free agents.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Reinstated OF Darryl Strawberry from the 15-day DL. Placed P Felix Rodriguez and IF Eddie Pye on the 40-man roster.

Milwaukee Brewers -- Announced the retirement of IF Bill Doran.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Sent C Tom Prince to Triple-A Buffalo.

San Francisco Giants -- Reinstated P Bud Black from the 60-day emergency DL. Assigned Black and IF John Patterson to Triple-A Phoenix. Waived P Larry Carter for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.

Niagara Falls Rapids (Single-A) -- Announced the team will move to Jamestown next season.

Basketball

Orlando Magic -- Waived F Brian Quinnett, C Alan Ogg and former Washington Bullets F Terry Catledge.

Rapid City Thrillers (CBA) -- Signed former Washington Bullets G Larry Robinson.

Football

Atlanta Falcons -- Placed RB Eric Dickerson back on their roster after a trade with the Green Bay Packers was voided when Dickerson failed a physical. Waived PK Lin Elliott.

Green Bay Packers -- Announced that the trade with the Falcons on Tuesday has been completed. The Packers traded RB John Stephens to Atlanta for CB Bruce Pickens and received a conditional draft back from Atlanta for Dickerson.

Buffalo Bills -- Signed DB Jerome Henderson. Waived DB David Pool.

New York Jets -- Re-signed CB Lonnie Young. Placed S Damon Pieri on the practice squad.

Ottawa Rough Riders (CFL) -- Extended former Washington Redskins DE Dexter Manley's stay on the injured list to Oct. 21.

Hockey

NHL -- Suspended Chicago Blackhawks D Chris Chelios for an undetermined period of time for an incident in a game Oct. 14 against the Hartford Whalers. Suspended Vancouver Canucks LW Dixon Ward for three games and fined him $500 for checking from behind in a game Oct. 9 against the Calgary Flames.

Boston Bruins -- Recalled D Jim Wiemer from AHL Providence. Sent C Fred Knipscheer to Providence.

Dallas Stars -- Sent RW Trent Klatt to IHL Kalamazoo.

Los Angeles Kings -- Sent G Rick Knickle to IHL Phoenix.

Pittsburgh Penguins -- Reassigned G Roberto Romano to IHL Cleveland.

St. Louis Blues -- Signed F Kevin Miller and F Kelly Chase to multiyear contracts.

Vancouver Canucks -- Assigned D Adrien Plavsic to AHL Hamilton for conditioning.

Horse racing

Calder Race Course -- Suspended jockey Eibar Coa for 60 days for falsifying documentation that permitted him to ride with an apprentice allowance.

St. Louis Ambush -- Re-signed D Kevin Hundelt to a three-year contract. Signed first-round draft pick Steve Kuntz, Terry Brown and Steve Maurer to one-year contracts.

Wichita Wings -- Signed F Tatu.

Track and field

USA Track & Field -- Suspended Roshawn James, discus and hammer thrower, for four years because he failed to appear for drug testing during the week of May 17.
