It's time for Severna Park High School's 15th annual Tournament of Bands.

At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, autumn reds and golds will play second fiddle to the crescendo of colors on Roberts Field. Fifteen marching bands from Maryland, Virginia and Delaware will vie for prizes.

Bands will be rated on their music, marching/maneuvers, percussion and visual effects, with separate trophies awarded for outstanding band front, percussion and drum major. Cash prizes also will be awarded. Bands use the money for instruments, uniforms and trips.

The host band, under the direction of R. Thomas Powell, will not compete but will perform an updated version of its popular routine: selections from "Phantom of the Opera."

Another highlight will be a performance by the United States Naval Academy's Drum and Bugle Corps.

Event chairpersons are parents Jan and Carl Schneider and students Natasha Richardson and Stacey Quintero. Severna Park's drum major is Corey Poorman.

Tickets are $4 and are available at Music and Arts in the Park Plaza or at the gate. Information: 544-0900.
