The West County Chamber of Commerce has named six people as citizens of the year, including a police officer and an elementary school teacher.

Officer William Daughters and teacher Alice Susan Ruby, from ++ West Meade Elementary School, were among the winners. Marcia Hall, executive director of the chamber, said the police and fire departments selected the winners for their contributions to the West County area.

Volunteer firefighter Brian C. Rose and retired Col. Kent D. Menser, the former garrison commander of Fort Meade, also won. The business of the year went to Chewning Properties, and the owners, Bill and Mary Chewning.
