Boys soccer

Under-10 -- The Joppatowne Sockers (4-0) defeated the Edgewood Turbos, 3-0, last Saturday on two goals scored by PTC Mike Kenney and one by Nick Burns.

Strong defense was provided by the Sockers' Gus DiBlasi, Cody Wasmer, Michael Watto, Gary Dilworth and Jamie Ramono.

Under-12 -- The Greater Harford Soccer Club Rockets and the Forest Hill travel team battled to a 1-1 tie in Harford County League action at Forest Hill's recreation complex last Sunday.

The Rockets took the early lead as left wing Mike Pilarski arced a shot over Forest Hill's keeper 10 minutes into the game.

After a series of strong defensive plays, the Rockets were called for a hand ball in the penalty box at the eight-minute mark.

Forest Hill's Brian Kretzschmar got the call and pushed a shot past Rockets goalkeeper Ben Healey (16 saves) to tie the game.

The Emmorton Strikers improved their record to 3-1 with a 7-0 shutout of Edgewood last Saturday in a Harford County Recreation game.

Goals were scored by Mike Abbott, James Bays, Ken Bazemore (two), Steve Raymond (two) and Eric Siegel with assists from John Blessing, Sammy Mogavero and Matt Pietrowski.

Emmorton's defense was led by Mike Pacifico, who stopped seven breakaways, Chris Acker, Brian Grahe, Greg Reft, Will Koester and Olen Smith. Jeremy Fefel had four saves in the second half to preserve the Strikers' second shutout in a row.

The Forest Hill Force scored a 4-0 shutout over St. Stephens in Harford County Recreation Red League action last Saturday.

Daniel Watts and Justin Mast combined for two goals. Alex Markiewicz tallied a goal on a left-footed volley on a pass from Mike Duncan and Anthony Collurafici scored on a breakaway pass from Justin Collins.

Defensively, right fullback Kevin Voelker and goalkeepers Eric Blom and Eric Gardiner worked together to keep St. Stephens scoreless.

In other Harford Saturday Rec League action, the Hickory Lazers defeated Aberdeen, 5-2, and the Havre de Grace Strikers beat the Hickory Thunder, 3-0.

Joppatowne remained undefeated (3-0) with a 2-1 victory over Belcamp II in a Harford County League White Division matchup.

Tim Dean and Brian Kretzschmar scored the goals for Joppatowne, assisted by Justin Fischer and Dean. Joppatowne's defense, led by Tim Frisch and keeper Jesse Strevig, stopped many fast breaks.

Under-14: The Hickory Rebels scored two goals in the second half to gain a tie with the Havre de Grace Lightning, 2-2, in Harford County Recreation soccer.

Scoring for the Rebels were Brent Gebhardt and Brandon Schmoll.

In Sunday travel league action, the Rebels defeated Edgewood, 4-1. Goals were tallied by Nick Hayes, Tim Goetzinger, Chris White and Steve Poole.

Girls soccer

Under-10: Joppatowne (2-2) defeated the Emmorton Spirit, 2-0, last Saturday. Goals were scored by Natalie Terzigni and Colleen Kretzschmar.

Under-12: The visiting Emmorton Lazers remained undefeated (4-0) with a 3-0 win over the Havre de Grace Barracudas.

Early in the first half, the Lazers' Erica Korecky scored two goals, assisted by Shelby Hughes and April Madden.

In a hard-fought second half, Korecky came through with her third goal of the game, this one assisted by Nicole Neubauer.

Emmorton's solid defense was anchored by Rebecca Roberts, Lauren Drexel and Elaine Triandafilou. Goalkeeper Lindsay Bugda blocked a one-on-one breakaway to preserve the shutout.

Under-16: The Joppatowne Soccer Club defeated the Emmorton Sockers, 5-0, in Baltimore Beltway League action. Amanda Laughton led the attack with three goals, while Carrie Gorsch and Nicole Duval each scored once. Eva Pierorazio and Nina Pierorazio each had an assist.

In Baltimore Metro League action, Joppatowne defeated Northeast Soccer Club, 2-1. Angela Ketner and Nikki Terzigni each scored unassisted goals to lead the team to victory. Sarah Brill recorded nine saves for JSC.
