A 25-year-old Hampstead woman was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore early Friday morning after a truck in which she was a passenger struck a tree near Lineboro.

Angela Shaffer, of the 1500 block of Century St., was listed in fair condition Friday afternoon, according to a spokeswoman at Shock Trauma.

The accident occurred about 2 a.m. near Grave Run and Shaffer Mill roads when a 1986 Toyota truck rounded a curve too fast, lost control and struck a tree, state police said.

The driver of the truck, 25-year-old Douglas Carl Thomas, of the 3100 block of Maiden Lane in Manchester, was charged with driving with a suspended license, negligent driving and failure to reduce speed on a curve, state police said.

Mr. Thomas refused medical treatment and was released on personal recognizance.

Passenger Stacey Baughman, 21, of the 1500 block of Fish and '' Game Road in Littlestown, Pa., was treated in and released from Carroll County General Hospital.

Ms. Baughman was a passenger in the right front seat and Ms. Shaffer was in the center front, police said.

Victims of another accident, the four people who were sent to Carroll County General Hospital Thursday after a crash in Westminster, all were treated in the emergency room and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The three-vehicle accident in front of the state police barracks on Route 140 snarled rush-hour traffic for several miles about 4 p.m.

The accident occurred when a 1989 Ford Aerostar van failed to yield the right of way, police said. The van collided with a 1989 Mazda pickup truck, overturned and slid in to a Geo Metro.

The Geo's driver, Richard Sheridan Jacoby, 37, of the 2900 block of Bird View Road in Westminster, was immobilized on a stretcher before emergency crews transported him to Carroll County General.

Terri Lynne Yasho, the driver of the Ford van, and her two children, ages 6 and 8, also were taken to the hospital.

Ms. Yasho, of the 6200 block of Long Leaf Pine Road in Eldersburg, was charged with failing to yield the right of way.

The driver of the Mazda, Faith Carolyn Frenzel, of the 2100 block of Albert Rill Road in Hampstead, did not require medical treatment.
