Sykesville teen-ager given probation for setting fires

Carroll Circuit Judge Luke K. Burns Jr. gave an 18-year-old Sykesville man probation before judgment and ordered him to pay $250 in restitution in connection with two fires at empty buildings in Eldersburg in February.

The judge found Scott Kelly Gamber of the 6300 block of Barnett Ave. guilty of malicious destruction of property and breaking and entering.

The state prosecutor dropped two arson charges and a second malicious destruction of property charge against Gamber.

Court records show that Gamber and two juveniles broke into a house under construction in the 1000 block of Caren Drive and an empty building in the 1300 block of Liberty Road and started fires in the buildings.

The Caren Drive house belonged to Altieri Homes Inc. of Baltimore; the Liberty Road building belonged to Fred Sawcyzn.

The maximum penalty on the two charges was 3 1/2 years in jaiand a $3,000 fine.
