Father sentenced to probation in beating of 15-year-old son RTC

Carroll Circuit Judge Luke K. Burns Jr. yesterday sentenced a Finksburg man to four years of unsupervised probation for beating his 15-year-old son.

The judge found the man, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim, guilty of battery at a trial in August. A grand jury indicted the man in February on charges of child abuse, battery and assault.

Court records said the son called state police on Jan. 26 saying his father had punched him in the head and face that evening.

The state prosecutor dropped the child abuse and assault charges.
