Traffic alternatives for Saturday

October 07, 1993

Maryland State Police, Annapolis police and the Naval Academy Athletic Association are warning motorists traveling to Annapolis on Saturday to take alternate routes into the city to avoid traffic from the Navy-Air Force football game and the annual Sailboat Show at City Dock.

The football game starts at 1:30 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium. In addition, construction crews are working on U.S. Route 50.

Police officials and the athletic association suggest that motorists from Washington heading to the football game take Central Avenue (state Route 214) to state Route 2 north to Route 50, then exit on Rowe Boulevard to the stadium. Another alternative is to take Route 450 to West Street and turn left on Glen or Taylor avenues to the stadium.

Motorists heading to the boat show from the west on Route 50 or Interstate 97 should take Exit 22 (Route 665) to Route 2 north, then turn right on West Street and left on Glen Avenue to Germantown Elementary School, where parking is available. Boat show visitors will not be allowed to park at the stadium Saturday.

Those traveling from the east on Route 50 should take Exit 23A at Route 2 south, turn left on West Street, then left on Glen Avenue to Germantown Elementary.

Motorists also should avoid College Avenue and Rowe Boulevard from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. because of the Brigade of Midshipmen's march from the Naval Academy to the stadium.
