Wilde Lake couple face drug charges after spat

Howard County police officers, responding to a reported domestic dispute in Wilde Lake Sunday night, say they made two drug arrests after one of the residents tried to flush suspected cocaine down the toilet.

A District Court commissioner ordered Derrick Michael Thomas, 21, and Twila Nedra Gordon, 29, held at the County Detention Center on $25,000 bond each yesterday.

The unmarried couple was charged with manufacturing of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of cocaine, possession of equipment with intent to manufacture drugs, possession with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm while drug trafficking.

About 7 p.m., the officers arrived at the residence in the 5100 block of Brookway and interviewed a man and a woman about the source of their argument.

During the interview, Mr. Thomas asked to use the bathroom, where police said he emptied small bags of what appeared to be cocaine from his shirt pocket.

An officer entered the bathroom shortly afterward, but was unable to prevent suspected drugs from being flushed down the toilet. Meanwhile, another officer found a marijuana cigarette on the main bedroom floor of the house.

Officers applied for a search warrant and later found a semi-automatic handgun, crack cocaine, powdered cocaine, marijuana, a scale and other drug paraphernalia.

Police probe stabbing at Hickory Ridge party

Howard County police are investigating the stabbing of a Columbia man who said he was attacked by another man at a Hickory Ridge party early Sunday morning.

Avon Eugene Curtis, 19, of the 5300 block of Fall River Terrace, walked in to the emergency room at Howard County General Hospital around 5:30 a.m. Sunday with serious stab wounds to his arms, face, hands and back.

Mr. Curtis claimed an argument he had at a party in the 5500 block of Cedar Lane Friday night turned into a fight, in which his attacker stabbed him several times with a kitchen knife.

Police said the victim did not know the suspect, who fled the house before police arrived.

Mr. Curtis was reported in stable condition.
