Gary seeks committee's advice on running for county executive

September 30, 1993

Del. John G. Gary, R-Millersville, has appointed a steering committee to advise him on whether he should run for county executive next year.

Mr. Gary, 49, said he would like the 46-member committee of fellow Republican politicians, business managers and community leaders to report to him by the end of November. He will use their input, along with a poll in each county precinct and other voter analyses, to decide.

"I hope to have the input I need for a 'go' or 'no-go' decision by January," Mr. Gary said in a statement.

Mr. Gary's decision-making process could be advanced considerably if County Executive Robert R. Neall, a close political ally, makes his expected announcement in November that he will run for governor.

Mr. Gary's committee includes Sheriff Robert Pepersack and his undersheriff, Patrick Ogle; former Congresswoman Marjorie Holt; Court Clerk Mary Rose; Sen. John A. Cade, R-33; Dels. Phil Bissett, R-30, and Elizabeth Smith-Anderson, R-33; Annapolis Aldermen John Hammond and Joseph Sachs; Annapolis attorney John R. Greiber Jr., a candidate for state's attorney; attorney Timothy Murnane; and Laura Green Treffer, an Edgewater community activist.
