Boyce, Dons stun Gaels Football

Reggie Boyce returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown with 52 seconds left to give No. 14 Loyola (1-2, 1-0) an 18-13 win over host Mount St. Joseph (0-4, 0-1) yesterday in a Maryland Scholastic Association Armstrong A Conference game.

The Dons struck first with a 10-play scoring drive that was capped by Brian Oates' 3-yard touchdown run. Kevin Kaiser's extra-point attempt went wide left.

The Gaels answered with an 11-play drive that was capped by a 5-yard touchdown run by senior Julius Weems. Pat O'Donnell's point-after kick gave Mount St. Joseph a 7-6 lead.

In the third quarter, Weems took a sweep 55 yards for a touchdown. Loyola blocked the extra-point try, but the Gaels had a 13-6 lead.

Loyola opened the fourth quarter with a five-play drive that brought it to within 13-12 on a 1-yard scoring run by Scott Brown.
