Loyola rips New Mexico, 5-0, in soccer

EVANSVILLE, IND. — EVANSVILLE, Ind.-- Marc Harrison scored two goals and Brian Geraghty (Calvert Hall) added a goal and an assist, pacing Loyola (5-1) to a 5-0 victory over New Mexico (4-3) in the opener of the Aces Soccer Classic.

The victory improved the Greyhounds' winning streak to five. Loyola will play No. 14 Fresno State in tomorrow's second round at 1 p.m.

Geraghty started the scoring when he tooked a pass from Chris Doyle and beat New Mexico goalie Nate Buseck with 24:52 gone in the first half. Harrison scored his team-high eighth goal 28 minutes into the first half. Bill Wnek's goal gave Loyola a 3-0 halftime cushion.

Harrison took a crossing pass from Geraghty and scored his second goal of the game with 18:47 left in regulation.

Doug Willey completed the scoring on an assist from Mike Barger (Calvert Hall) with 10 minutes left. Zach Thornton (John Carroll) had five saves

* Frostburg 6, Marymount 0: Tom Gould (Fallston) had two goals and had two assists, leading Frostburg State (4-2-1) past visiting Marymount in a non-conference game.

Tony Patti (Calvert Hall), Brian Wright, Steve Carey and Greg Hostetler also scored goals for Frostburg.

Women's soccer

* Towson State 7, Niagara 1: Melissa Galietta scored the tie-breaking goal with 38:53 remaining to break a 1-1 tie and spark Towson State (3-1) over visiting Niagara. The six-goal margin of victory was the largest in the program's history, and the seven goals tied the record for most in a game.

Michelle Cope (Severna Park) led the Tigers with two goals.

* Dundalk CC 6, Northern Va. CC 0: Carrie Falkenhan had four goals and an assist to lead Dundalk (2-1) past Northern Virginia. Tracy Brannock added two goals and an assist.
