American shuts out UMBC Women

WASHINGTON -- Leigh Torres led a trio of scorers as host American shut out UMBC, 3-0, at Reeves Field yesterday.

Torres opened the scoring 28 minutes into the game -- assisted by Liz Pike -- and 15 minutes later, Kim Hodor scored from 20 feet out to give American (3-3) a 2-0 lead. Eileen MacNeil, on an assist from Pike, scored the only second-half goal.

For UMBC (4-4), Nadine Henchcliffe had four saves, three fewer than American's Lisa Gervase.

Essex CC 3, Navy 0

Freshman Colleen Grady (Havre de Grace) collected three saves as she recorded her second straight shutout for Essex (2-0). Amy Stone, Kim Dorzey and Robin DePasquale scored for Essex.
