Fund-raiser offers rocking, walking SOUTHWEST -- Mount Airy * Woodbine * Taylorsville * Winfield

September 23, 1993

The Mount Airy NETWalk and Rock on Sunday is an equal opportunity exercise fund-raiser.

The more sedentary supporters of Mount Airy NET's service mission are encouraged to use rocking chairs in Calvary Church's auditorium to raise pledge money during the Sunday afternoon event.

For exercise enthusiasts, a 10-kilometer route that begins and ends at Mount Airy's Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 S. Main St., will provide an afternoon of pleasant pedestrianism for a good cause.

The walking route, which will be marked, extends south to the Pizza Hut and as far north as Mount Airy Middle School.

Participants are asked to observe all traffic safety rules to make the NETWalk a safe and enjoyable event.

Registration begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Calvary Church. The NETWalk and Rock begin promptly at 2:30 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to participate. Children under 18 are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent. Pledge sheets may be picked up at Calvary Church, St. James Episcopal Church on North Main Street, and Howard Chapel United Methodist Church. All pledges, large and small, are appreciated. It is asked that all pledge money be turned in on the day of the event.

A gift will go to participants who collect $10 or more in pledges. Mount Airy NET T-shirts will be given to anyone who turns in a minimum of $100 in pledges on the day of the event.

Participants who turn in a minimum of $500 will be eligible for a drawing for prizes, including a football autographed by Washington Redskins, an autographed picture of the Washington Redskinettes, and a gift certificate to Michael's Hair Salon in Mount Airy.
