Hunter injured in fall from tree

A 30-year-old hunter was injured Tuesday afternoon when he slipped from a tree stand and slashed his right arm, county police said.

County police said Richard C. Case Jr. of the 4000 block of 13th St. in Chesapeake Beach was taken by ambulance to Calvert County Hospital in Prince Frederick, but hospital officials said they had no record of his being there.

The incident occurred in woods off the 800 block of Friendship Road in Friendship just before 5 p.m.

Mr. Case told police he was putting the last peg into his tree stand when he took out a knife to cut a vine and slipped and fell, opening a gash in his arm.

His hunting partner, Dan Lindsey, treated Mr. Case until the ambulance arrived.

The male Samoyed, a Siberian dog, was recovering from the wound yesterday, according to police report.

Authorities said the wounded dog returned to his owner, Coleen Lilly Brown, 33, of the 600 block of Harberts Court.

No shots were heard, and nobody was seen with a gun, police said. The shooting took place between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
