A Baltimore cabdriver was shot to death last night in the 3400 block of Walbrook Ave., the apparent victim of a robbery, police said.

The man was the second city cabbie murdered this year, police said.

Last night's victim, Eli Delawder, 32, of Nunnery Lane near Catonsville, had just pulled over to the curb at a West Baltimore address about 9 p.m., police said.

The meter of the blue Chevy taxi had registered a $6.90 fare just before the driver was shot.

Police said the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was a driver for County Cab Co. Inc. of the first block of Bloomsbury Ave. in Catonsville.

Police said they had no suspects and were trying to determine what was taken from the cab and where the driver picked up the fare.

On Aug. 31, Waverly Albert Paige Jr., 48, a driver for GI Veterans Cab, was found slumped behind the wheel in the 2800 block of N. Dukeland St., also the victim of a robbery.

Police said Mr. Paige was pronounced dead at the scene from a shotgun blast to the head.

Last night's murder brought the city's homicide toll to 256, compared with 240 at this time last year.
